I recently replaced two items in my closet. The first was my old pair of polka dot jeans, I had bought the first pair I had found in my price range and while they were really cute, I hated the awkward fading on them and that they didn't have really pockets. (I guess that means they were jeggings.) I love polka dot jeans but with the fading I never wore them, they were close to what I wanted but not quite it.
It was the same thing with my old navy parka. I loved it at first, it was the first cute parka I'd seen in years and it went to super cheap during on of old navy's sale. I didn't realized until I took pictures of it that it did very strange things to my chest area, ie the coat just about screamed "boooobs!" when I wore it zipped up. That's an awkward thing for your coat to say about you and the more I wore it, the more I noticed the fit was off in a lot of places.
I went to old navy a little bit ago for their kids sale and while I was there I saw this coat and these pants in the clearance They were exactly what I'd originally wanted and they ended up being really cheap with my coupons, the clearance sale and the cash coupons. (Out of pocket I spent about $7 and change on these two . Pretty good since I've got a $25 dollar budget this month for clothes.) I took my other two items to the consignment store so hopefully I'll make a little money back on them but lesson learned! Don't buy something if it's "sorta" like what you really want. It might take a long time but eventually you will find the right item at the price you want. Patience young grasshopper, patience.
I know, this was something I should have learned a long time ago. Most of the time I'm really good about waiting but this was definitely a fail for me. The scarf though? So not a fail. I really wanted one of Ralph Lauren's scarves back when he did a great bits and bridles equestrian inspired print but they were way too expensive for my blood. I passed on a couple look alikes I'd seen lately and the other day I spotted this little gem at the Salvation Army. It's 100% silk and even though I didn't get a good picture of it, it's got the bridle and bits print with fox hunting scenes. It's adorable and exactly what I wanted. (Not a bad price either, $2.00 is closer to my price range.)
parka and bag are great :)
ReplyDeleteHahaha, boobs jackets....I know what you mean, had a few of these and never worn them, very weird :-D I don't know why, but your outfit reminds me of Mary Margaret's style from OUAT. So feminine and cute!
ReplyDeleteExcellent advice! I've fallen prey to the "it's almost like what I want and I'm tired of looking" trap more than once, too. But it always feels so much better to have something you really, really like.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I just recently have learned this same lesson! I was such a huge thrifter, but I've since realized that even if the price is right, if it doesn't fit right, it is NOT worth it! I'm finally applying this to my shopping hatbits, so now all the things I've gotten are getting more use.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy your photography Katie, and I've seriously enjoyed watching it improve since I started reading your blog. The photo of the sunset behind the trees and your kids in the foreground...wow, I love that!
Anyway, nice replacement of the coat and polka dot pants! These definitely fit flatteringly on you :) And whaaaa?? $7 total?? Teach me your shopping ways!!

Oh wait, and you got the same AE jeggings?? Woot woot! Fashionable minds think alike ;) I wanna see you wear them!
DeleteI love when patience paid off. Now you've got the wonderful feeling of owning a scarf you love, of having conquered impatience, and only be out of pocket the cost of a coffee! Way to go.
ReplyDeleteanother cute pair of polka dot pants. seeing those even makes me want to own a pair but nope, no pants for me since I already have too many. btw, how lovely is the combo of your white lace top and pastel cardi. oh and it indeed is a beautiful scarf. I'm a scarves' person too :P
ReplyDeletebtw, I feel you when it comes to buying something that is actually not so awesome.. that sometimes happens to me and I feel so guilty then. not the coolest situation to be in but then again, that's life, hehe.

let's talk about how heavenly your children look with the sunset, or is that the sunrise? the lace blouse, scarf, necklace, those pants, and boots add such elements of texture and interest to your outfit. i would so rock those gloves. i have a black and white striped pair, that i adore, except mine aren't fingerless. so, yep i want your gloves too. you're right, never settle for an item that isn't exactly what you want or need.
ReplyDeleteyou are so beautiful and this outfit is made for you:)
