My Grumpy Valentine

J.J. Basic Jacket
American Eagle Cat Tee Shirt, Arrow and Pink Bracelet, Arrow Earrings
Halo Skirt
American Eagle Red Jeans (under the skirt.)
Madden Girl Boots
RB Sterling  Bracelet (thrifted)

Happy Valentine's Day everyone. (For another 15 minutes anyways.)

This outfit is sort of strange, I'll admit.  Looking back i really wish Id worn one of my regular black leather jackets with this, it might have meshed a little better.  Now that I have an idea of what I would like my style to be, I'm working on incorporating other aspects into it and it doesn't always work out in my favor.  It was fun to break out this maxi skirt again, I love the print about I wish so much that it had a full slip rather than the half slip.  I think I'm going to go through my maxi dresses and skirts and start ripping out the half slips and replace them with full length slips, I hate how the shorter ones have a tendency to ride up to inappropriate spots.  (It's hard to look cool while you're trying to have your slip back down.)

We didn't have much going on today despite it being both Valentine's Day and our Anniversary  E had to pull some long shifts so we're going to wait until later in the week to go out on a 'date.' (Guys, don't get married on Valentine's day.  It seems like a great idea because you'll never forget about it thanks to Hallmark shoving it down everyone's throat and you're getting two things out of the way, but it sticks for trying to get a babysitter.  Or dinner reservations.  Just go with some random day in April.  May I suggest the 15th?  Get all of the stress out in one day!)

Jezz, I sound like a grump.  I'm not really the most romantic person to start out with, but I am lucky enough to have met and married a awesome guy who likes Russian literature, Firefly and thinks ponies are pretty cool.  That makes him a pretty cool dude.  Love you sweetie. :)

  2. Aw, he sounds perfect.
As for the V day. I like the idea, but the whole celebration thing isn't really for me (or Mr). :)

  3. That is such a pretty print on the skirt with all the different colors! It was a good idea to go out on another night for Valentine's Day/your anniversary. The restaurants are always packed and they jack up the prices!

  4. Love the skirt. We went out for sushi last night and a normally empty place was crazy packed and the service sucked. I'm not a fan of the day either.

  5. I really like the jacket. Maybe it isn't perfect with the maxi, but I think it's definitely a challenge to take something that summery and beachy and make it work for winter.

My coworker got married on feb. 29 - she'll never forget the date, and doesn't even have to worry about celebrating every year.

  6. A plain black leather jacket would definitely change the vibe of the outfit. More biker meets bohemian. And, yes to the full slip! What is up with the half slip? I want my skirts to be fully lined, thanks.

I'm not a romantic type myself, don't get the whole point of this holiday..

I am seriously impressed by this outfit, I actually think the jacket is perfect with the gorgeously vibrant skirt! 11. Katie....I don't think you sound grumpy....although your expression in your photos is pensive.
I think its fine to dismiss the commercialism of V-day. It doesn't have much meaning for me these days except that my young son enjoys it. I consider every day my holiday...and count my blessings.
I do have to admit, though, that I enjoy some of the V-day hype...because I love the hearts and the red and pink. And any excuse for chocolate is a good excuse.
I agree with you on the maxi with short skirts...they just don't look or feel right and ride up. I hate that feeling!
You look cute as always. How cool that you have a guy with some unique and cultured interests...and that he loves ponies is a super-bonus!

  12. I actually love that jacket and I don't think it looks bad with your bright maxi skirt. I really like that combo, to be completely honest.
btw, I hope you two managed to have a nice date eventually and when it comes to Valentine's then I'm not super excited about it but well, I still give something to my grandparents, parents and fiance. this year I made bread and cookies. my relatives just love my bread.

    1. Firefly is the best. I sobbed when they killed Wash in the movie. And hah, Ev is the shy type when it comes to being in front of the camera he doesn't really like having his picture taken aside from the few times I manage to sneak some shots of him. :)

  16. Your skirt is such a pretty pop of color and print in the snow! And happy anniversary - he sounds like a keeper and I wish you many more years filled with ponies, Russian lit and happiness. :)
Half slips are just nonsensical. It's like when something has a button detail and has buttonholes and everything - but they didn't actually make it a working button! Drives me crazy.

  17. your last paragraph made me laugh. is firefly some sci fi show? april 15 for a wedding is funny, but i do actually know a couple who married on april fools day. ;) for real. i dig the skirt. i'm sure the half slip would annoy me as well. of course i'd be glad to have a slip at all. oh, and your earrings are very elegant. :)

  18. I like the maxi skirt and how colorful it is. I HATE when they come with half slips though, they're uncomfortable and usually dont look as nice as full slips.

It's cool that you know what you want your style to be, it's trial and error until you figure it out exactly! Blogging helps a lot, you can look back (like you've done with this post) and decide what you'd change to achieve the look you want.
